Mums, step mums, girlfriends and partners who look after their other half’s children, mums to be and women who missed out on the chance to be a mother, and to those who lost their mother or child, Sunday the 8th of May is all about you.

Mother’s Day is on the horizon and it’s time to start thinking about celebrating your mum. Plan to do something to say thank you for all the things she does for you which mount up, although she would never mention them; she just thinks it’s her job.

Now is the time for serious pampering; us ladies need to start the bikini body prep and as more and more flesh will be exposed, need to get it ready for public viewing. Pedicures have got to be one of life’s absolute luxuries and with sandal time here any day, set time aside to do yours.

Don’t you just love this time of year? Spring is most definitely in the air and plans to meet friends and family are in full swing. Wedding invitations have started to arrive, and beach bodies are a work in progress.

I’ll bet you think denim was invented in the USA. Well, it was actually first created in a town in the South of France, Nimes, and so it being from the town, ie, De Nimes, over time, became denim. It has been used since the mid 19th century for workwear primarily but became fashionable in the 1950’s in post-war America.

Orange is all around us all the time; sunrise, marmalade on toast, flowers on the roundabouts on the way to work, traffic lights teasing me, neon stripes on the trainers of my boss, grated carrots in my lunchbox, sunset as I drive to meet friends, mango chutney with my curry, cocktails…

This year’s colour, as seen on all the catwalks was orange, giving fashion a new zest, new energy, to take on the future; clothing this season comes in every hue from tangerine to coral, but did you know that orange was originally considered a shade of red and took the name of ‘orange’ after the fruit.

My Maltese isn’t great, and I do apologise for this, but I grew up in Germany (so spoke German) moved to France in my 20s (so learned French) got to Malta in my 30s (and didn’t think I’d be here so long) and then spent a lot of time working in Italy so had to learn Italian. However, I do pick up the occasional word and one that I’m hearing a lot of is ‘mezzu temp’.

The days are getting longer and soon, the clocks go back, signalling the new season. As spring approaches let’s get outside more and enjoy the scenery and look to find our 'zen' again.
